We usually come here for our sushi fix. I don't care much for the sushi here, but I am a fan of their spicy mussles. The combination plates are good here too. My favorite is the salmon and beef teriyaki. I have tried the nabeyaki udon as well, and it was pretty delicious. Service is alright.

came here for wknd lunch w coworker before the shooting range ordered: -spicy mussels: complimentary.. these were ok -kim's special: spicy tuna, eel, avocado, tuna, halibut.. i didn't think it tasted that fresh friend's order: -lion king: ca roll w baked salmon -crunch roll: shrimp tempura i normally order nigiri or sashimi but for some reason felt like having a roll.. nothing special about this place.. i wouldn't come here again

The Brandon roll is loaded with fresh fish, which is exactly what I wanted. The dragon roll was good, and the fried gyoza were nice and crispy. Everything tasted really fresh and clean! Went for an early weekday dinner around 5 and didn't need to wait at all. Prices are fair, but still kinda pricey since it's sushi, and the bill for my boyfriend and me came out to be $70 (3 rolls, gyoza, 2 pc nigiri, dessert and tip). Pretty nice atmosphere, would definitely come here again!

I really really love this sushi place, but today I came here and the service really fell short, like poop. I came in with 2 other friends around 3:30pm and there were many open tables unoccupied. No one greeted us or seated us so we decided to sit at a table that had 6 seats, even though we only had 3 people. I thought they wouldn't mind because they weren't busy at all. Finally a lady came out and helped us, and looked at us while we sat at the table with 6 chairs. She gave us a rude look, she could have asked us to move, but she didn't she just gave us a weird look. My friends decided it was best to move, I thought we should have just staid at the table, it's not like they were busy like how they are on the weekends. Anyways, some guy took our order and he seem to be nice. I ordered the Brandon roll and it was hella good. So glad I finally decided to get this, every time I come here I always want to get the Brandon roll, but I don't. So happy I did, it was really good. While my friends and I were enjoying our delicious meal, some server girl went up to us three times and awkwardly asked us how our meal and food was. It was really nice of her to keep coming back and asking, but seriously every time she came to ask she seemed very uncomfortable and awkward.. Can you please train her to be less awkward please? Good thing our food was good if not they would've gotton 1 star instead of three stars. By the end of our meal the table of 6 still wasn't taken and the restaurant was still kinda empty, I don't know why that lady gave us a look when we wanted to sit at that table.. Anyways, one more thing the servers seem like they're in a rush here. The restaurant never got busy when we came, it was like one or two tables coming in. Before we left we noticed a couple coming in and they didn't want them to sit at the 6 table so they quickly cleaned a dirty table for them to sit at. Like seriously, do you really need to save the 6 people table? It's not like you can't move around your tables to accommodate a big party. Dude, the server here suck except for the guy. The old lady and the young lady suckkkkkkkkkkkk. Ruin my meal here, but the food was greatttt. Overall I will be back hopefully the weird servers aren't here. Hey hire new people.

Okay, next to sen dai sushi in milpitas, this is my next favorite! Great rolls, with great portions! The only thing is that the wait is always ridiculously long because the place is so small. They should definitely expand because with the high demand of eating here, people sometimes lose their patience to eat and decide to eat somewhere else. Each time I went I had to wait an hour+ "/
(4)Jean O.
Yummy sushi! Came in with my boyfriend. We ordered the Dragon roll, Jayden roll and Sushi pizza. Downside, the pizza was a bit over cooked so the rice was too hard But overall good experience
(4)Brett W.
Our first time here... Fast service, food was excellent. Presentation not so great... Good portions, and reasonable pricing. Would go back...

I have always loved Cha Cha, but was disappointed this time. The fish was fresh and tasty. My friend ordered beef udon and it came after the check did. Unacceptable. It was my birthday and they did not give me any special dessert because I did not have ID. I do not have a drivers license yet, so were they expecting me to bring my birth certificate? I was very excited to taste their uni but they did not have any. What kind of sushi restaurant runs out of fish? Tragic.
(3)Karin H.
Pro: - Very friendly server that help us with the togo order. According to the receipt his name is Edwin. - Very generous fish portion. - 4 rolls + 1 appetizer was done and packed in 15 min on a full house. Cons: - Too much rice on the rolls. The rolls kept falling apart when dipping in the soy sauce. - The tempura is old and and too thick.
(3)Julius M.
They have alright food, kinda pricey. They should invest in a larger dining area, they do make enough money. Seeing how long the lines are all the time.
(3)Faisal A.
This place is by far one of my favorite sushi places in San Jose. The variety of rolls are vast and there's a type of roll for everyone. I personally like the firecracker roll and the lion king, but every roll here that I've tried so far is delicious. I would recommend this place to everyone looking for some sushi, but beware the wait is long and there are no reservations.
(5)Chantha O.
My absolute favorite spot in San Jose for sushi! The rolls are huge and so flavorful! I've never had anything that I did not like here, everything has been perfect! The sashimi is melt in your mouth good! My husband loves their udons here (and he's a picky eater!), and my daughter loves their sushi/makis (and she normally does not eat sushi anywhere!) My only gripe is how small the place is, so it has very limited seating and sometimes you have to wait a while. I've been lucky because I've never had to wait longer than 15 minutes but it's just because I pick the right times to come here lol Employees are super nice and attentive! My 2 year old daughter loves to make them work when she comes lol she's always dropping spoons and forks and the waiters/waitress never give her a hard time about it (which I really appreciate because she's very sensitive).
(5)Joe N.
This is a local gem! Fresh sushi/sashimi and a wide variety of rolls as well as appetizers, bento boxes, everything you would expect from a sushi restaurant. Their service is very tentative as well. I stop by when I am in the area and never leave upset. Try the Brandon Roll!
(5)Janelle G.
Came here before the dinner rush, and when my mom said there's always a lot of people who eat here for dinner...She wasn't kidding. They seated us quickly and we made sure to order our sushi rolls fast. Within the next 10-15 minutes the place started filling up quickly. Its not a big location since it has a sushi bar and not too many tables. So there is definitely a wait during dinner hours. Sushi was delicious and everything was fresh. My nephew had the chicken katsu which was awesome. Chicken was nice and crunchy hot and fresh, served with rice and a salad. I got the chicken teriyaki and tempura chicken was cooked perfectly and so was the tempura. This was my first time at Cha Cha sushi and I will definitely come back the next time I'm in town.
(4)Padma Harika P.
I usually prefer baked or fried sushi which is difficult to find. But this place was really good and had good options for us. We had dark night , crab meats crab and all time favorite lion king.
(5)Anna P.
So the wait at this place is out the door... Not sure why. I wouldn't say that the quality of fish was outstanding or that the dishes that we ordered were outstanding. In fact, I had to look up this place again just to review it, even though I have visited it just a little over a week ago. So I can honestly say that the only memorable thing was the long line that we had to wait in. I guess it's on par with your average sushi place, I wouldn't come here again, mostly because the time spent waiting in line is not worth the very standard, average experience that you end up getting.
(3)Christine L.
I brought my brother here for his bday lunch, and I was SUPER disappointed! This used to be my go-to spot for sushi in San Jose, but inconsistency is the worst crime of all in my book! :( My former all time favorite was the Brandon roll, but this morning it was topped with dull, chewy, and poorly cut pieces of fish that clung onto itself. Is Friday the new "don't go eat seafood day" or something? I've had sushi leftovers (which is also a crime in itself) that tasted fresher than that! I also kept getting fatty pieces of fat/skin that was no fun at all! We also split the Titanic and GSW which both weren't bad, but I couldn't get the bad taste of the Brandon roll out of my mouth. This was probably the first and last time I'll leave half a roll of sushi on the table. So sad!
(2)Kelly F.
I'll keep it short and sweet. I've been there 3 times with other people - in the end it may be a good deal but the quality just isn't there. Life's too short to eat bad sushi.
(2)Jenny L.
According to my first experience, nothing went wrong. Service was great, everyone was attentive. They gave us a complimentary spicy mussels which was flavorful. They came back to check on us frequently. I got the unagi donburi which was delicious. I would come back to try more dishes. Hopefully they can keep my 5 stars!
(5)Wendy Y.
So I came here with a party of four on a Friday night and there was kind of a long wait. But we didn't mind since we expected it and it's so worth the wait. We kind of chose what rolls we wanted while waiting since we didn't have anything to do. Once we were seated, we quickly ordered because we were so hungry. We got the 49er, Giants, Spicy Rainbow, Little Jenny, and Hamachi Lover. The service was very good and prompt. They have complimentary mussels with salsa. We literally got our rolls within ten minutes of our order, which was great! It was the fastest service I've ever had in a sushi restaurant. The fish were so fresh and all the rolls were absolutely delicious! The 49er goes well with the slice of lemon given on each piece. The sourness just goes really well with the salmon. The Giants was great, especially if you're an unagi lover. The Spicy Rainbow wasn't as spicy as I expected but there were six different types of fish in that roll. The Little Jenny was decent since it was a tempura roll. I wasn't too fond of the Hamachi roll. The only reason we got it was because we wanted a different type of fish, the yellowtail, but I am not really a fan. These five rolls were enough to feed four girls and we were all so full! I really enjoyed my experience here. The service was great. The food was great. I definitely recommend the 49er and Giants rolls! I am definitely coming back!
(5)Kathy L.
Food here is always good, so 5 stars for that. 5 stars for the service here before I met this certain rude waiter. So the story is, I accidently used my boyfriend's credit card instead of mine because he left it in my wallet. We have a discover card so the name isn't in the front. It was my fault that I didn't check before handing them the card. Anyways, I asked them if they could void the transaction or reverse it. I know it's a hassle, but I can't just let them charge for a credit card that isn't mine and to use it without permission. The waiter that I asked to void it was so unbelievably rude. Can someone teach her customer service? I hope that waiter's resume isn't all about customer service, because that is bs. I am 100% she is new because she asked another worker for help. The second waiter that helped me was so nice. She was patient and very helpful. AND Seriously, you are going to talk right in front of my face? She was filled with attitude. I wish I had gotten her name. She told the other waiter, "She ordered in separate transaction AND she wants me to void all of it?" With a disgusted look on her face. You know who you are.

I've been meaning to come here for quite some time. The stars just never seemed to align properly and it just didn't happen. Well, thanks to the intervention of pretty much nothing, I decided to give this place a shot yesterday. There was a line outside, but I guess nobody wanted to sit at the sushi bar, so we were seated right away. No fuss or muss. Nice and easy. The servers here work in a hive brain style, meaning you really don't just have one server. Everybody will come and ask if you need any help, which is great! You're dirty plates will be whisked away before you even have a chance to put them away. The food here is phenomenal and I left nearly ready to explode. I feel like I ate less than I did last week when I went to Kenzo's all you can eat Sushi, but left here even more full. They also give you free mussels! Not sure why, but why complain about a free appetizer? I'm not. They serve your food quick, so you won't have to wait long. They also have happy hour for hot sake from 3-7 or something like that. Only $3 bucks for a large! Not bad. The sushi is fresh and tasty and they have the usual including the elusive fatty tuna! Mmm. Didn't buy it this time, but maybe next time. Overall, loved this place. No complaints here!
(5)Marjo M.
My favorite sushi place in San Jose. Mussel appetizers on the house, a very nice gesture for customers :) * Brandon Roll + Orange Blossom are my favorite. * They're not lying when they describe the roll to be VERY BIG * The Lion King roll will also never fail anyone if you're being indecisive about which roll to choose :P The prices are a little higher than average, but I'm not complaining because everything here tastes so good. Service is quick and attentive. They even offer to split bills, how convenient!
(5)Andy N.
I been going here for as long as I remember and it never disappoint. But lately I notice the portion is not what it use to be. I order tako karaage and there about 4 pieces cut into 10 tiny pieces. It's half of what I'm use to get. Maybe it was late and they ran out but I was disappointed they even serve it. Either way they make good sushi but next I be hesitate to order tako karaage
(2)Stephanie Z.
Cha Cha Sushi is my favorite sushi restaurant in the Bay Area. It's not too expensive, the sashimi is pretty fresh, and they have a good variety in their menu. My favorite thing about this place is that they give you cooked mussels with a little spice on the house, and everything that you order comes out really gradual and it's great because you don't have to wait more than 5 minutes in between the different rolls and stuff that you order. The wait can be bad because it's popular but you can always run around and give your friends piggyback rides in Luckys (Albertson's? I don't even know).
(5)Sarika S.
Amazeballs! The taste & quality of the sushi here is 2nd to none. You put your name down on a list once you get inside. But there is no waiting room inside so one must wait outside. They call you as tables free up. We sat at the sushi bar and it was great. Not crowded at all, there is enough space between seats to comfortable eat. Service was prompt as well. We ordered 3 rolls between the 2 of us. I think one was the cherry blossom, other 2 were specialty shrimp tempura roles. All of them had a good amount of fish and not too much rice. Since the place is in a strip mall, parking is ample.
(5)Helen P.
Cha Cha Sushi is my all time favorite but why must the wait be so long! If you're around the area, try to come right before opening for lunch or dinner. You'll find that people will already be lining up for a spot. My favorite special rolls are the Brandon Roll, Spicy Tempura Roll, and Highway 87. I've also kept it simple with uni, hamachi, and tuna nigiri. I feel like you can't go wrong with whatever rolls or pieces of sushi you decide to get. The lunch combos are great if you're not one to eat raw fish... but its pretty okay. The service is always great here plus, you get a complimentary mussel appetizer.
(4)lucy c.
Our new go to. Rolls were delish and fresh. Everything was coming out quick and all the waiters help out so everyone is getting great service. Seems like they all like working there so that makes it inviting too for customers. Will be coming back for my next sushi fix. Expect a wait because it's a smaller place but it's worth it.
(5)Lily W.
Came here with some friends when I had to venture into the South Bay for the day. Ask any San Franciscan - if I gotta cross a bridge or border to get there, I'd rather stay home. Such is the life... My friend suggested this as an option for sushi when I suggested Japanese for dinner. Now, I'm weary of all sushi places that are rated as 1-2 dollar signs on yelp. Really, its the 1 $ sign ones that are scary...its supposed to be fresh fish. There's gotta be a minimum cost for this, right?? This one at 2 stars made me weary (and...the fact that its located in the middle of a mini-mall), but since my friend recommended it, I did not question. Thank goodness I didn't question! The food is quite delicious! For 7PM on a Thursday night, we still had to wait about 20 minutes before we sat down! We had their mussels, which were spicy and quite good. It didn't taste like it was just caught that morning, but also wasn't the scary fishy tasting ones. Pretty good. Their salad is DELICIOUS. I know, I'm the weird person who's telling you to get a salad at a sushi joint...but it is A MUST. Very well dressed, and yummy. King Kong Roll was giant, and very filling. Can probably be a meal in itself. And their ice cream...I thought it was going to be a scoop of green tea ice cream, like most other Japanese joints. Yeah...no. Think Ice Cream Sundae. 3 fair sized scoops, whipped cream, 2 mini-cookies, and sprinkles. I'm just waiting for sparklers to make it over the top. What I also loved was that I went into the nearby grocery store after, and saw a family who dined at about the same time we did. The father asked me if I liked it, which I definitely did. I mentioned the giant ice cream, and he said the owner gave them a free ice cream (they had an infant, and a toddler). Super sweet of the owners!
(4)David C.
The BRANDON ROLL! FISH ON FISH ON FISH! This roll has sashimi covered all over it. Just take a look at my picture. It is delicious! This roll with the free spicy mussel they serve in the beginning is more than enough reason for me to come back. I need to try this Little Jenny roll I am seeing in these other reviews.
(5)Anthony P.
4 stars. Its been awhile since I've been here, due the the service I received the last time. I love the free muscles they provide wit the meal. The rolls are large and very tasty. For the size of the rolls, they are put together nicely and don't fall apart on you. Rolls come out quickly and service was good. Final Thought: Cha Cha Sushi is back on top!
(4)Kristine L.
4.5 stars. One of my favorite places for sushi in San Jose! It's one of the more casual places, so not as fancy as Mizu Sushi, but the food is still just as delicious! Service is fast, prices are reasonable and the portions are large enough. It gets pretty crowded during lunch and dinner hours but the line moves fast. Service isn't the best, but it's not bad either. They don't wait on you and serve you to the fullest like bigger restaurants, but they are super nice and they do their jobs, so I'm not complaining. My favorite rolls are the Little Jenny, 49er Roll, Salmon Skin hand roll, and the Poki Roll. All soo good, I'm always craving more!! Definitely give this place a try :)
(4)Quyen And Vi L.
As such avid fans of sushi, my hubby and I decided to stop by here after some shopping. We had read reviews about how this place gets very crowded so we stopped by thinking there would be a wait. Luckily, we arrived at the perfect time and grabbed the last table. Appearance wise, Cha Cha Sushi won't win any awards. It is pretty dark, pretty small, and not really decorated at all. While there is ample seating, the tables feel a little too close together, but the restaurant is doing the best with what it has. For our food, we ordered the gyoza (8 pieces of fried dumplings), the GW roll, and the Superman roll. The gyoza was served with a sweet and tangy sesame seed sauce and two pieces of sliced orange. The GW roll was our fried entree that had salmon and tuna. The Superman roll had avocado, unagi, and a tobiko-mayo sauce. They also gave us complimentary mussles with a spicy chili sauce on top as a pre-appetizer. Everything tasted great. The gyoza wasn't oily and had a good amount of filling. We liked the unagi on the Superman roll and how creamy the flavors came together with the sauce. As for the GW roll, it was really interesting to have a mix of cooked fish and raw fish in one bite. The flavors oddly worked well. The complimentary mussles were also fresh and had a good punch of spice from the chili. Price wise, everything was really quite cheap for the amount of food we had. We left feeling full and very satisfied. So while Cha Cha Sushi isn't the best looking place, the food definitely earns its good reviews.
(4)Kelly T.
This place is one of the best sushi joints in San Jose. It's no wonder that the line is always out the door. I'm a big fan of raw fish (specifically poke and sushi) and Cha-cha gave birth to the love child: the Brandon roll. It is a generic sushi roll covered in--you guessed it--a bunch of raw fish. The raw fish is mixed in a delicious sauce and is very reminiscent of Hawaiian poke salad (only difference is that Cha-cha adds some roe to the mix). Definitely check them out.
(4)Marissa P.
Ever since my bestie, Liza L, introduced me to this spot a couple years ago I've been hooked! The price for a good quality, huge size roll is what everyone comes back for. The size of the restaurant is small and it does take a while to be seated . . . but isn't that how it usually is at a restaurant that's worth the wait? Once you're seated it doesn't take long for a server to get to you and food comes out fast. Go to rolls: Brandon Roll Jayden Roll Lion King 49ers I've only came here for the rolls and I always leave satisfied! Thanks Cha Cha!
(5)Jo T.
Cha Cha I love you guys and I always brag about how great the Brandon Roll is but the last few times I've ordered it it's been extremely disappointing. It's like rice city now! Sadly, it looks like a roll from Sushi Factory and falls apart. I miss my Brandon Rolls when they were stuffed to the max with a thin layer of rice! :-( Pretty disappointed.
(3)Julia T.
Pretty good spot for sushi in the South Bay. I'm a bit biased towards the ratings because I've had amazing sushi at Kenzo and Mizu on the other side of town, so Cha Cha was a bit of a let-down in comparison. But 3 stars nonetheless and a place I wouldn't mind returning to, just not dying to come back. What we ordered: *Lion King Roll: The roll that came out did not do the photo justice. It was a lot smaller, and the sauce was a bit too sweet for me. But if you're a fan of California Rolls and baked salmon, check this one out. It takes 15 minutes for them to bake it so make sure to order this one first. I wasn't blown away by anything in this one, but it wasn't too crabby (pun intended). *Jayden Roll: My favorite of the night! I am a fan of the tempura flakes, and this one hits the spot. The roll was stuffed with shrimp tempura, cucumbers and cream cheese. I'm also guilty of loving cream cheese so I thought this roll was superb. Highly recommend if you're a fan of tempura like I am. *Miso Soup: A bit watered down to me. My server initially forgot to bring them out to us, but after I reminded her we had 2 miso soups pending, she quickly retrieved them from the kitchen. Hindsight being 20/20, I kind of regretted reminding her. The tofu and seaweed were generously portioned, but the chef didn't season the broth very well. You can tell they make their own miso soup in house, because there was no powdery aftertaste to it, but again it lacked proper seasoning and simply drank like water. The chef gave us two complimentary mussels; they were cold and heavily topped with chopped red peppers. It may just be personal preference here, but I didn't enjoy the cold mussels or the amount of water I had to gulp down afterwards. All in all, there are some hits and misses with Cha Cha. And it really depends on your personal preferences. Mizu and Kenzo Sushi are my only favorites in San Jose thus far, but I'm glad I gave Cha Cha a shot. Parking is in a shared private lot. It's a small restaurant, so come during off-hours and with a small party (2-4 people) if you don't want to wait too long for a table. Sign your name on a clipboard inside, and wait for your name to be called.
(3)Cyrus C.
Sashimi are poor cut and served in room temperature. Rice is not well cooked and has no vinegar. The side salad has no different as rabbit glass with liquidized Mayo. These Korean chefs have no skill from what I seen them used the same knife for cutting the fish and avocado.
(1)Angie J.
Great Bento. The salmon and the poki bowl were fresh. Will come back!
(4)Tiffany Michelle L.
My bf and I came here to get our sushi fix, as it had been a while. We search through Yelp and this place seemed like it would be really good. We ordered 4 rolls and his friend ordered a salmon or some cooked fish. We had read the Brandon roll was really good so we ordered 2 of those. My bf and I didnt that the Brandon roll was all that - as reviewers hyped up to be. The other two rolls we got were the King Kong roll and the Super Rainbow roll. Of everything we got, the rambow roll was pretty good. The portions are very good. We could have been full from one roll each. The fish wasn't fishy or anything.
(3)Rae Dawne G.
Great place but would recommend doing take out. Location is a little small and the wait can be crazy. If you like good ole sushi rolls with sauce here and tempura flakes there, then this is your spot! Rolls can be huge and sometimes need to broken down into two bites at least. Only if you want to save your jaw, but if you're going all out, I dare you to stuff a whole piece in your mouth. JK don't do that..Enjoy the sushi... Can be pricey, but that's because the rolls are huge and there's a lot that goes into it. The service is fast an friendly. Not my favorite sushi place, but the best in the area.
(3)Ogella B.
I love this place! The rolls are so flavorful and big. Don't think I've had a roll I didn't like. The space itself is adequate, not too small but it isn't big either. There is usually a wait time so be prepared to sign your name on the waitlist for dinner! Haven't had lunch here yet so not sure how busy it is. The service is 3.5/4 stars depending on who's working I guess. Sometimes service is attentive and sometimes it's not, but it's okay I usually just want to eat and talk haha. I recommend the "49er" roll if you want a fresh and tangy roll thanks to the generous raw salmon and lemon slice on top. The rock" and "Superman" are also yummy. They're fried and I think both have unagi. Suuuper good. I live about 17 miles from here but I love it and think it's worth the drive. It's a delicious place to chat or catch up with friends. It has easily replaced Sen Dai (in Milpitas) as my new favorite
(4)Lydia E.
Well worth the wait!! Lion king is so good! I sat at the bar twice. Got to see the making of many delicious rolls. Friendly chefs and lots of action here. They even sang happy birthday for my husband and he got a sundae!! Crunchy stuff in it too
(4)Emily W.
Super good and offers a wide variety of food! My favorite roll is the "Lion King" or "Jaden" roll, and even if you're not in the mood for sushi, there are bentos and other choices! I've tried the salmon teriyaki bento, and was super delicious! One of my favorite places to get sushi :) only thing is that it's a bit small and always super crowded
(4)Olivia C.
San Jose is known for its sushi spots, and locals here definitely know of Cha Cha. DISCLAIMER: If you are looking for super authentic Japanese food, you'll have to go somewhere else (perhaps Japantown in Downtown SJ?). However, if you like scrumptious, over-the-top sushi rolls, then Cha Cha is your place! Expect a solid wait here, especially during dinnertime on the weekends. The place is not big, so try not to come with more than 4 people if you can. Upon ordering, everyone at your table will be served complimentary mussels with a bit of spicy sauce. Always a nice way to kick off your meal and fire up your taste buds. Again, Cha Cha is known for their rolls. Honestly, I haven't tried one I disliked...but my favorites are the Oh Yes and the Brandon. The rolls range from $10-$15 are pretty filling (order 1-1.5 per person).
(4)Koko P.
Tried this place out based on Yelp reviews and was not disappointed. Went on a Monday night with a group of 6 - but only had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. They do not take reservations - sign in when you get there - first come first serve, based on open tables. Very casual atmosphere. Cons: - Small place so you might have to wait a long time to get seated. - Tonkatsu dinner was just "ok"... nothing great, average. Pros: - The menu has a very good selection and the rolls are very generous in size. - The service was good (and fast) even tho it was busy, even on a weekday. - We received complimentary muscles that were tasty and spicy, so that was definitely a nice appetizer and surprise! - The fish was fresh and all sushi we ordered had great flavor. - Really decent sushi that comes in very generous portions, I think you're definitely going to like this place!
(5)Donna T.
Overhyped but averagely decent! However the horror stories are true- the WAIT TIME for a busy weeknight, Friday, or weekend dinner is about 1/2 hour to 1 hour+. The worse part is that Cha Cha Sushi is located in such a boring plaza that there's nothing to do! If you leave and your name is called, they're not forgiving or tolerant about it either. ...Complimentary Mussels with Salsa::: It was a-okay! My friends have mentioned that sometimes it's not always fresh? They've felt sick afterwards previously, but I've never had a problem with it. But now that's been brought to my attention, I am ever so paranoid about the mussels haha. ...Hawaiian Poke Salad (Spicy Tuna Salad): Grade A My family and my favorite dish at Cha Cha! The fish is usually fresh and their salad sauce and flavorful seasonings mix well with the greens while giving us that tangy, spicy kick. Is it the fanciest salad I've tasted? No but it does a great job of satisfying my poke salad cravings! ...Nabeyaki Udon (Noodle Soup with Chicken, Egg, Prawns, Vegetables): Grade A Their udon does not come in a nabe pot but it's for a good reason. It comes in a monstrous pho challenge-sized bowl! Think of a 3 small chihuahuas being able to fit in one large bowl. That's how big the bowl is! I was excited to see such hearty portions and honestly the udon was pretty delightful too! It was very savory and fulfilling with plenty of umami flavor and accessory foods-- they definitely don't skimp out on the protein or veggie portions. ...Crab Meets Crab, Golden Gate: Grade B The quality of the crab and fish were mediocre, meaning it wasn't entirely memorable nor are their compilations that creative or original. The display of the sushi was again-- just okay. Taste-wise, I've had better in San Jose. But their saving grace is the speed at which your sushi rolls come out after you've placed your order. Would I think of Cha Cha for high quality sushi immediately? Unfortunately no. VERDICT: Although the salad and udon are great, I wouldn't come back for the sushi or the horrendous wait time. Honestly if the sushi is just "meh" to me, then it doesn't merit my usual patronage because there's just so many sushi restaurants around SJ. Good luck to Cha Cha, I'm sure it's still doing well! .

Great Sushi, so many options. Only reason it doesn't get the fifth star is because it is so packed and the seating is small and uncomfortable. Its a must try place 9/10, with 10/10 food

We've ordered almost all of the cooked/warm rolls and they were amazing!!! The price was reasonable for the size and delish taste. Udon was OK. Service wasn't so impressive tho.

Cha Cha! What I'll aways remember about this place are the complimentary mussels :D. A very great way to start the meal, nom nom nom... My friends and I shared the Orange blossom, Lion King (baked), Spicy Rainbow, South Bay, Titanic, Giants, Red Dragon, G, and (to-go) Hamachi Lover. I must say the fish weren't particularly as fresh as I'd like, but for the price you really can't go wrong -- everything came out to be $105! The fish were also cut in thick slices and not layered with too much rice. Rolls kept their composure and didn't fall apart easily. The fried tempura could be a bit more crispy, but otherwise everything was good. I'm not sure if it's just me, but sushi starts to taste the same amongst rolls as I eat them. So if you want something different, try the Lion King! It's baked therefore the texture is different from most typical rolls. Warning though, not everyone may fancy warm sushi. Service was nice and staff checked up on us regularly! We ordered and received our food promptly. Will most likely return if I'm ever looking for affordable and decent quality sushi around South Bay!

Amazing sushi! I come here a lot for dates with my bf:) Top Gun and rainbow roll are my favorites. The rolls are really huge though so I have to bite it in half then everything falls out:/ Other than that, it's good and the service is good too :)

Heard about this place awhile ago, and finally got a chance to go. I've read reviews about it being packed, we went at 11:30 (when it opens), people were there but not busy. (It picked up about 45 mins later) Service was great, food was brought out fast and presentation was nice. As far as the taste of the food, definitely not cheap and for a good price. You also get complimentary mussels! **Make sure you have your whole party there to be seated** Only complaint is that it was a bit cold for a restaurant, but other than that it was a great experience.

All I can say is.... it's worth the wait. It's kinda like going to Bill's. You have to expect a wait... but when you finally get seated, you'll get excellent service and just awesome amazing food. I don't even know what to order... EVERYTHING is amazing. I love the Hamachi Kama - it's on the appetizer side of the menu... basically it's fish face. (whaaaat??) FISH FACE. but so, so, sooo good! On Friday I took my BF there for the first time, and we ordered a couple rolls & some Kirin and it totally hit the spot. Our fav was Brandon's roll - but we also had Dark Night - which was soooo good, even though I typically don't like fried rolls & cream cheese in my sushi. Overall, bomb-ass.

Not my favorite, the sushi was just okay. I prefer Mizu Sushi in West San Jose. It has more variety and is a more upscale experience.

Updated review! Cha Cha Sushi is still my favorite sushi place in San Jose! Their rolls are delicious and the sashimi is always fresh. The workers are attentive and a girl worker even remembers me because of how often I'm there, lol! But sometimes I do feel like their quality isn't consistent. There's been two times where my Brandon's Roll was drenched in the unagi(?) sauce and the first time I just let it slide but the second time I had asked them to remake it and they did! The wait time is usually 20 mins (+) during busy hours but it's well worth the wait. *****Your whole party must be there to be seated!!!***** They rearranged the seating and personally I think it's a lot better now. There's room for people to go in and sign their names on the wait list. And room for people to walk in and out without feeling like they're gonna bump into people who are dining. Overall, this place is great! Even when I had sushi in LA I'm still missing cha cha from the bay!

My boyfriend & I went to Cha Cha Sushi for dinner on our way back from Santa Cruz on a Friday night at around 6 which was apparently a good time to go because lots of people were waiting outside not too long after that & the place is pretty small. We ordered: - The G Roll: Huge! Aside from the size, relatively average. - Dinner Bento with Salmon Teriyaki & Salmon Sashimi: Fresh sashimi, but pretty mediocre teriyaki. - Nabeyaki Udon: Broth tasted homemade & they add lots of good quality toppings so it's nowhere near the generic, packaged crap. I am a huge noodle lover & my boyfriend & I almost always need a good bowl of udon with our sushi so our bellies were satisfied! The service was great as they gave us complimentary mussels, continuously came around to fill our waters (huge plus for my boyfriend because he drinks tons of water!), & the food came out at a reasonable time. Overall, this place was pretty good for a last minute sushi stop. I would definitely return to this place when I'm craving specifically rolls because their selection of rolls are never ending. Their rolls are roughly $10+ but it's worth it because they're massive!

Went here at exactly when it opened and thank goodness because the tables fill up insanely fast! Plus the place is small. Boyfriend and I ordered the Brandon roll and the CK7. I was pretty disappointed in the Brandon roll. It wasn't that amazing to me. Yes the fish was pretty fresh but for some reason it didn't feel right. Not worth the $12.95 in my opinion. I LOVED the CK7 roll though. It has the perfect amount of spicy kick to it! Their spicy mussel appetizers were pretty good. Service was okay. Had a hard time getting the waitress's attention but understandable since it was at a busy lunch time.

When everyone at work started telling me how great the sushi was at Cha Cha's, I knew we had to go. I went that night. It was a Tuesday night, around 7:30pm. There were several people waiting around outside, so we entered the restaurant and added our name to the list. And waited. And waited. We didn't get a table until around 8:30pm. Had we driven there (took a Lyft so we could have Sake), we would have left. Had there been ANYTHING else around it, we would have left. Because it's in a strip mall, we stayed. Stood around outside, freezing, and waiting. Now here's where it gets tricky. The food is REALLY good. Very high quality sushi, great service, including free mussels to start?! I mean, it doesn't get much better than that. Except for the wait. Will we be back? Probably. But will we EVER come here on a busy night again? No.

Giving it 4 stars because of the Vegetable Udon and Red Dragon Roll. The noodles in the udon were perfectly cooked and the broth was delicious without being overly salty. The flavor and texture combo of the crunchy tempura and smooth fish in the Red Dragon made it stand out from the rest of the rolls. Cherry blossom roll was pretty good, Red Dragon was hands down the best, Poki was nice with seaweed salad on top. Only took 15 min for takeout to be ready, look forward to returning soon!

Almost 4 years since I last visited this place.. and absolutely nothing has changed in the quality of the food. Every single slice of sashimi was masterfully cut.. and the freshness is ridiculously amazing. It's crowded all the time and for good reason... the food here is great. I can't speak for most of the rolls and whatever other stuff people might order... as I tend to go straight for the great sashimi... and great it is!! The few rolls I ate in the past were great too.. and I doubt the quality of those have gone down either. Yes.. it's crowded.. yes, it gets busy.. service can be so-so sometimes.. but I have yet to recall a bad experience... because in the end, the wait is worth it. It's good to see a place like this still around. There were plenty of new faces since I last came here.. but a big shout out to Hanson for keeping the place running so well. Thank you, sir.. and hope to see you again soon.

This is definitely my go-to sushi spot, as I'm sure goes for many, many others, lol. They have a ton of rolls as well as bentos, hand rolls, tempura, etc. Their menu is pretty big so there's always something for everyone. My favorites are the Hanson roll, Lil' Jenny roll, 49er roll, any fried roll, tempura, the complimentary dine-in muscle appetizer, unagi lover roll, etc. Basically, everything I've ever gotten from here has been supah yummy. The raw fish is fresh and not fishy, the fried items are hot when they come out, and the rice is always that perfect Japanese rice texture. All their roll combinations are bound to be delicious, you really can't go wrong. Sometimes, the wait can be ridiculous, even on weekdays, but once you're in, the service is friendly and fast, especially considering how crowded it gets during peak hours. If you're not down to stand around and wait, you can always call in ahead to place and order then come pick it up to-go. The prices are pretty average. I'd recommend this sushi joint to anyone that comes down to SSJ, just overall really good.

Sushi craving satisfied! I came here for lunch with my bestie. She said this place was her favorite so of course I have to check it out! It's a small restaurant in a large plaza with lots of parking. Seatings are limited so expect a wait time when you arrive. It's not too bad of a wait though! We got seats at the bar and ordered the Brandon roll. This was what everyone was talking about and it was the specialty. I just had to try this. We also ordered the lion king and another roll. I forgot the name of it, but i will update it soon! The rolls came with mussels as an appetizer. It was one mussel per person but it was a nice compliment. :) I absolutely love the brandon roll though. Thank you Brandon, you are a genius. I could marry you! The roll was beautifully plated and it was a work of art. The salmon was a nice color. There was this sauce on there that went perfectly well with the rice. I loved it! And for about $13, it was a very large roll so it's worth your money! Definitely recommend this roll to start off! The lion king wasn't too bad either. My only complaint was when it came out, it was pretty cold already for a baked roll. :( It was still delicious though! The staffs are extremely nice. We forgot the name of our server, but he was the one who recommended the third roll to us. He did a great job! I am going to be back her more often. I think this is my new favorite sushi place.

If you're like me then Sushi is Bae, Sushi is life, Sushi is... Yeah you guys get the point. I'm in love with this place because it's the perfect combination of great quality sushi while ballin on a budget. (affordable) For most places being affordable the quality of sushi is subpar, good sometimes, but not great. Or if you want quality sushi it's more than likely gonna be expensive. It's hard to find a place that will give both delicious sushi, quality fish(fresh) and price that is fair. You're also will not get cheated out of the size of the roll neither will it have too much rice. Anyways I couldn't really find any fault in the rolls I choose -Upon being served, the servers were generous enough to bring muscles out which were amazing. It's kind of like a trap cause after you get a taste you just want more. -Golden Gate Very flavorful, tempura is A1, texture of roll is amazing -Ichaban (Huge) It's Huge! Loads of tuna and 2 ways. -Miso Soup Its $1.75, and it's good and not water down *I have yet to try a Bento box here They have a host at the front but they have a clipboard for you to sign if it's busy. This plaza is surrounded by banks, so there's no excuse to have money to split with your friends. I almost forgot to mention that they push out food at the speed of light so you won't be waiting long. The staff is friendly. I know that there's already been hundreds of reviews of this place, believe the hype on this one. It's one of this places where you got to go if your in town. I can't see myself leaving San Jose without at least a to go order from this place.

I absolutely LOVE this place. Great sushi spot and a real BANG FOR YOUR BUCK. You can't miss this spot because there is always a mob of people standing around waiting for their name to be called. The wait is always tedious but so worth it. Cha Cha Sushi's establishment is teeny tiny so waiting is pretty much unavoidable. The flow of this place is no joke. Customer service is almost always on point but don't take it too personally when you have to flag someone down for whatever reason. Complimentary mussels are alriiiight. Nothing too amazing but you sure can't beat the price =P Our GO-TOs: Crunch RoLL Brandon RoLL King Kong RoLL (HUGE) ** You honestly can't go wrong with any of the options they have to offer!! **

My only go to place to get my sushi fix. Prices are decent and quick with the order, but I noticed lately that the rolls aren't made very well since everytime I pick up a roll with my chopsticks, I falls apart and the presentation of the sushi has changed as well. Also, if it's your birthday they give you complementary tempura ice cream (which btw is suuuper good) but certain servers ask for i.d. and some do not (a little embarrassing since i took my mother there for her birthday and they denied her the tempura ice cream because she didn't bring her purse and it was never a hassle on my birthday or my boyfriends birthday so we didn't know.) Before every meal they give you a mussel with salsa on top which my boyfriend and I enjoy everytime. Overall: sushi tastes great service is decent. Minus one star because of inconsistency, the way the roll is made sometimes, and especially THE WAIT. Forgot to add that they take couples over groups because the way the tables are set up. Huuuuge let down since I go with quite a few people usually and we have to wait an extra 30-40minutes AFTER a couple who wrote their names 10-15 minutes after us. Only time we wait is if it's for a special occasion and my family really wants to eat here.

I've been coming to Cha Cha Sushi for quite some time now, every now and then when I'm in South San Jose, or when I'm craving sushi that's comparable to Sen Dai. My most recent visit was about 2 weeks ago, and sadly, Cha Cha is no longer the restaurant I used to like, and their sushi is medicore. When we arrived, there was a wait, like always, so we put our name down. They estimated an hour, but I was like no way, so I actually wasted time by running some errands at the neighboring CVS. Soon enough, we were called and we sat down at a table. The servers were all nice, but a bit unprofessional. When we ordered, I picked 5 nigiri from their menu. Unfortunately, I also ordered Uni, and the lady waitress wrote it down. By the end of my 4th piece and a roll later, as we were WAITING AND WAITING for the uni, nobody bothered to tell us that it was actually out. I had told 3 separate waiters/ waitresses that we were waiting for our Uni, and then finally somebody told us that it was out. See the unprofessionalism? Wasted my time, and money, on medicore nigiri. On their menu they list toro, and uni, both of which were out, and pretty disappointing that they were out as the other nigiri pieces they had listed area all the common ones. We proceeded with an extra large roll which filled us up. In the middle of our meal, the table next to us got a birthday song and a ice cream tempura. Well well well, my birthday happened to be 2 days away, but they wouldn't give me a complementary ice cream tempura :(. They said that you have to go on the day of and they check ID. 2 days man, 2 days. Another thing, we ordered the amaebi "sweet shrimp". For those of you that know this nigiri, most sushi restaurants would ask if you want the shrimp head in miso soup, or the shrimp head fried. Unfortunately, Cha Cha only gives you the option of fried. And well, the head was absolutely disgusting. They don't fry it with a crisp light fry making the head absolutely delicate and delicious. Instead, it was a THICK bubbly layer of batter and unfortunately, the head was not crispy enough to be considered edible. I'll give them 3 stars because I've never had a bad experience here before this one, but I usually only order rolls, so maybe that's why. This past experience honestly left a bad taste in my mouth, and I doubt I'll be returning very often, if at all. I've grown into a bit of a sushi snob, so I'm out searching for a local good place aside from all the more pricier options along the peninsula and in SF.

It's a 3.5. A decent american sushi place. Lot of fancy rolls combinations, coming in large portions. Dishes are well presented. You get some complimentary stuff as well (we had 2 mussels with spicy salsa. Very good salsa byt the way...) Cheap Makimono sets. Nice vegetarian options. "build your own roll" option. Popular spots. Lot of queuing even during lunch time. The quality is here, but I feel it's not as great and fresh as other sushi places (see my other sushi restaurants reviews), that's why I give it only 3 stars. I found the rainbow roll too sweet as well.

Found a new sushi place near home! This place has really delicious food! It gets busy but the wait is never too long. The staff all help each other out and are friendly. The prices are good for the portion size and for the quality. Sake happy hour until 7pm everyday! New fav

Cha Cha sushi is my local Japanese restaurant and sushi joint. I have tried several rolls including the Highway 87 roll, Dragon roll and the Brandon roll and they are all really good. I love how big the sushi rolls are and how big the portions are for all of the entrees. One of my favorite things to order is the chicken katsu with gyoza and a California roll. The chicken katsu is meaty and juicy and has a great crunch on it. If you order any of the entrees, it comes with soup, salad, rice, some slices of fruit and also complimentary spicy mussels. Service is quick and always pleasant at the restaurant. Try not to come during peak hours because you will be waiting in such a long line. Come here either when the restaurant opens at 11:30 a.m. or at 4 p.m. when dinner starts.

This place is worth the wait. Cha Cha Sushi a small japanese restaurant in South San Jose. It is my ultimate go-to place when I am craving sushi rolls. If you come during the nighttime, particular on Fridays and weekends, there will most definitely be a wait time since they have very limited seating. I've come around 4-5pm on regular week days and there has been no wait, so try to come early! They always give you complimentary mussels with some kind of spicy salsa which I think is nice. The service is fine, nothing spectacular. Sushi rolls are the only thing I order here. They have a menu with 2 and a half pages of rolls to choose from from spicy to crunchy to vegetarian to sashimi. I've tried a lot of the rolls, so here are a few that I recommend: -Caterpillar: I always order this one along with a few others. If you like avocado or eel, or avocado and eel, you will love this roll. It's a pretty good value compared to the other rolls too! -Oh Yes: This roll has a yummy spicy crab filling which totally elevates the standard sushi roll- definitely one of my new favorites! -Veggie Tempura: If you are vegetarian, this is a good choice because it is cheaper than most rolls but they don't skimp on the veggie tempura filling. -Brandon: You will love this roll if you love sashimi! This sushi roll is filled with sashimi with tuna and salmon and the best part is that it is topped with even more sashimi. It's pricier than most other rolls, but a good deal because of all the sashimi. -49er: The thing I love about this sushi roll is that it's top with salmon sashimi and a thin lemon slice- really pretty. Buuut, if you are really not a roll person (why?!?) they do have lunch and dinner boxes that are a fairly good size with items to choose from like salmon/chicken/beef teriyaki and sashimi. I've also tried the sashimi salad and seaweed salad which are fine, but I'd rather focus my time on sushi rolls. Four stars because of the wait on most days, but, other than that, the rolls are five stars! Cha Cha Sushi should be on your list of places to try in San Jose if you have not been here already! Take my advice and just order the rolls, because that is what I think they do best here.
(4)Melissa L.
I love cha cha, mainly for the hawaiian salad! Everywhere else I go serves crappy Hawaiian salads for really expensively/ barely anything in it. Watch out though because it gets pretty spicy. My favorite roll has to be the Brandon roll! You won't regret getting it. The wait here is always long so go during an off time or to-go your order.
(4)Jennifer C.
We were on the hunt for a new and different sushi place in the SJ area and searched Yelp sorted by rating and voila, Cha Cha Sushi. I was surprised to see a line out the door, similar to our ramen experience... You walk up to the list on the host station and sign in similarly as well. The wait goes more quickly though! For having one of the highest ratings on Yelp in the South Bay area, I'm honestly. not sure what all the hype is about! This seems like a standard (and good) sushi restaurant, but nothing exceptional. All I wanted was sashimi, which they delivered like champs, and my husband order a couple of their special rolls which were great. I am not sure about some of the reviews stating the fish is pre-sliced and there are no sushi chefs behind the counter... it all seemed standard fare to me! And on top of that, the prices were just a bit cheaper than some of our usual sushi spots, so it will keep us coming back!
